Course Title #1: Equipping Yourself to be a Special Needs Warrior  

Course Description #1: For many dentists, hygienists, and dental team members, treating patients with special needs and neuro-sensitivities can be challenging and intimidating. This course will provide you with the knowledge and tools necessary to address some of the most common challenges encountered when treating neurodiverse patients. We will demonstrate effective approaches to desensitization, behavior modification, and stabilization. You will leave the course more confident and equipped to create a positive dental experience for your special needs patients and their families.

Course Objectives #1:

  • Identify the 5 most common special needs patients you will see in your practice and their dental concerns
  • Review and demonstrate the top dental materials and equipment available to treat special needs patients and their sensory issues
  • Discuss alternative techniques to treating special needs patients in your practices

Meet the Instructor: Dr. Jacob Dent

Dr. Jacob Dent is an outside-the-box general dentist and speaker. In practice for 21 years and a multi-practice owner, Dr. Dent has built a successful career treating patients of all ages and disabilities in a non-conventional way using desensitization. Dr. Dent is a fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International, clinical director for Special Olympics Special System.
Dr. Dent is married to his wife, Jennifer, father to his daughter, Jayden, and son, Ethan, who has autism. As a professional speaker, Dr. Dent has given presentations and workshops around the country for the past 8 years to dental professionals, health care providers, dental students, and families.
